From exploding airbags, to smoking ignition switches, to loose nuts and steering bolts, vehicle recalls have plagued the auto industry. Congress has been asking why it takes so long for auto makers to address these issues and, while they see improvements believe there is more to be done.
But it turns out auto makers aren’t the only ones to blame for seemingly ignoring safety issues, consumers have too. Rates of return for consumers have dropped from 75%, down to 15% for vehicles a decade old or older.
Granted, many recall issues are minor (improperly placed air bag stickers for example), but when it comes to the safety of you and your family, is it really worth it to ignore a free repair job? Minor inconveniences aside, unless you live in the middle of nowhere, make sure to address any issues that pop up as quickly as possible. And no matter where you live, definitely take care of any serious issues right away.
